What I Learned From a Hummingbird and a Bee

I’ve been assaulted - twice this past week. By mother nature herself. An ‘other-worldly’ visit by a hummingbird offers a mesmerizing encounter. Less thrilling… a single bee (aka yellow jacket) lying in wait on the inside of my sandal. Several stings later, I’m unable to walk - the pain excruciating and humbling all in one. Some twenty hours later, a long sleepless night and my curiosity leads me to wonder, “What lesson am I meant to learn?” (I no longer leave my shoes outside the door.) And so, I peruse ‘Animal Spirit Guides’ by Steven D. Farmer, finding me at a time when I was just beginning to explore my own spiritual journey.

Are the two visits as contrary as they seem?

If BEE shows up, it means:It’s time to get organized and get to work on that idea that you want to implement and develop. Take the time to appreciate and enjoy the sweetness of life.If HUMMINGBIRD shows up, it means:You need to be very flexible with the twists and turns your life will take in the next days. Put more emotional sweetness in your life - you need it.

Whenever you are creating beauty around you, you are restoring your own soul. ~ Alice Walker ~

While I’m still unraveling the mysteries of it all, one thing is abundantly clear…I am creating something beautiful and sacred in ‘Witness Our Wisdom’ retreats and it’s time to COMMIT. Like the ‘2X4 on the forehead’, the bee is my catalyst to move forward, battle the fear and embrace the lessons yet to be.It seems remiss to overlook the paradox of my two beguiling visitors. It is not lost on me the invitation to ‘draw in and take time to appreciate and enjoy the sweetness of life’.For now, the sweetness comes from announcing my next “Witness Our Wisdom’ retreat August 20th. I can’t wait to welcome you to my backyard oasis and share another day of exploring, discovering and being.Interested and want to know more?
